Thats no hairline crack!!! It's structural. Can you post a pic of the outside of the extension? And yes plastering is a trade with qualifications.

Hi Bridget, I don’t think anyone is a qualified plasterer. They just work in construction long enough to know what they’re doing. Im a qualified civil engineer/Project manager and have been in construction my whole life. I can do lots of things. I’d probably like to come check it out before going at it. I’d clean it out with a small trowel/knife& brush. put up some scrim tape on the edges. Fill with gyproc and sand it.
