Cut and sand (and varnish if you have?) piece of solid wood smaller than what is there (see marking on piece of wood), Sand boxing for painting

@Sarah D. Thanks Sarah! Yes, a light sand on the box..it is part of a kitchen cabinet thay was used for boxing. I will get the varnish and paint. I can paint the box but if you could varnish the top, that would be great. When could you do this job? I would need it done as soon as possible for the plumber if you can. Thanks so much!
