Hi, I need help repairing my wooden kitchen island. The area around the tap has become wet and rotten over time — it’s where the tap recesses into the countertop. The wood is now soft and discoloured, and the surface around the base of the tap has started to break down from moisture. I’d like to have it assessed and repaired, ideally with a durable, water-resistant finish or insert so the issue doesn’t happen again. Could you let me know: If this is the kind of repair you handle (wood + sealing around plumbing), Whether you can inspect and quote and roughly when you’d be available to take a look?
I've updated to a lower price to have a look
@Paul M. Can you take a look first and we can agree price for parts and labor?
Ok. Can you upload photos of the underside around the tap? It'd help to see how big an area is damaged.
@Paul M. Yes on a island
Ok. That size worktop is made specially for the size. Is it on an island unit? I understand why you want to repair it. It'd be awkward to do as to remove the rotten timber underneath can rip the laminate surface on the top.
@Paul M. It was there before I moved in
Cian was the worktop fitted by you or the previous house owner? That size worktop is not standard, it's special order.
Size is 6ft x 3ft
@Micheal, not around to measure at the moment - I'll put up details after the weekend
@Conor, I'm not around until Monday
Like George and Paul said you needs to replace countertop
Thanks for your comments, feels a bit drastic to replace the entire worktop for some small damage. I'll see if any other interest first cheers
Cian your suggestion for repairing the worktop is not practical especially to prevent future water damage. I wouldn't even attempt to start to repair it and it would get more damaged trying to repair it.
Hi are you interested in replacing the worktop
Cian as George said there's no way to only repair part of the worktop, the whole worktop has to be replaced.
Looks to me that by replacing the whole countertop is going to be the cheapest and best ideea.
