Although I do some electric work, only electricians are allowed to do work on the fuse board and in bathrooms especially electric showers. So I don't do that work.

No I'm unable to do it although I'm familiar with the work. Best advice is to wait until this evening when the electricians will check this site and reply to you, there's a few of them on here. or you can search the other tasks going back few weeks and find the electric ones and see who replied, the electricians usually do and you can see their profiles and send them an "invite" to have a look at this task and quote for it.

It's really not safe to extend the existing cable and it won't comply with the electric regulations in Ireland. Also if anything happens your house insurance company will definitely not pay for any damage as the cable has not been fitted as per the regulations.

Also Siobhan if you are getting the cable replaced, it'd be best to get a thicker cable as lots of electric showers are being made in a higher capacity electricity and they need a thicker cable than the usual electric cable that's being used for years for showers. So if your shower fails in the future and you decide to get a stronger shower, you won't be able to as the existing cable will limit the capacity of the shower. You'd have to get the same shower as the existing one. Food for thought!

Ok. So you have to generally replace it completely from end to end and wait for the electricians to reply to you later on. It will be few hundred euros to do it approx. That's all I can help you with.

Yes it looks like an electric shower or cooker cable that was retro fitted, it's usually the way it's done. Do you have an electric shower in the bathroom?

Ok that's good thanks. But still hard to know what it's for. Do you have an electric shower that was installed years ago? Tbh it could be for an electric shower or cooker and it's not recommended to extend it. It needs to run continuously from end to end. Unless you know exactly what it's wired into, I can't tell if it a socket cable or if it's for a shower. If it's a shower it needs to be replaced with a new cable and an electrician has to do the job, there's a few electricians on this site so wait until later in the day or tonight for them to reply to you.

Siobhan what sort of cable is it do you know? Standard electric cable for socket or is it broadband/telephone/television cable? Thanks
