Internal Wall Insulation Installers can prepare a wall, install insulation and plasterboard over the newly insulated wall. There are a couple of options available when installing insulation internally. If you choose to get a new stud wall your installer will build that and then install mineral wool insulation or PIR boards before covering the wall with plasterboard. Insulated plasterboard or “warm boards” are the other and more popular option. Your installer will fix these sheets directly to your wall using adhesive or fixings. Whichever option you choose, the installer will install around sockets, windows, vents and other openings to have the wall fully ready for the plaster and electrician to complete the next step. The process of installing “warm boards” is very similar to installing standard plasterboard sheets, so the Tasker may be able to help with installing additional plasterboard in your home. Internal Wall Insulation Installers are often from a carpentry or building background so they may be able to help with other property maintenance tasks in your home.

Get quotes for cat/dog flap installation services in your areaPurchasing insulation boards is probably the cheapest route to go down because you won’t have to pay someone to build a whole new wall! These boards are made up of foam or fibrous materials and will have a vapour barrier and usually a plasterboard already attached. The only drawback is that insulation boards can’t hold as much weight as a batten or stud wall so it’s best to speak to a professional before making any decisions.
Fibreglass is widely praised as an insulating material for its affordability and ease of use. On top of this, fibreglass is eco-friendly and flame retardant. However, it’s best to do your own research or consult a professional before making any important decisions.
Generally you’ll lose about 50mm to 100mm of floor space on each wall but if you decide to have a stud wall built, you could lose up to 140mm.
If you’ve purchased insulation boards from someone like Celotex or Kingspan, an installer will fix them directly to the wall using adhesive or plaster. Otherwise there will be some construction involved as the installer builds a batten or stud wall.
Do you have the central heating turned on all the time but just can’t seem to keep warm? Your walls may not be providing adequate insulation. 35% of heat is lost through internal walls and with energy prices rising, this can quickly add up. Installing internal wall insulation can help boost your home’s BER rating while reducing your utility bills. Many houses in Ireland that were built before the 1990s have no wall insulation. Houses built before the 70s generally had solid concrete walls. In the later 70s, 80s and 90s builders often used cavity concrete blocks which are hollow and also have no insulation. In these cases where the walls cavity can’t be filled, insulation must be placed either in front ( external insulation ) or inside the house ( internal insulation ).
There are three main methods for installing internal wall insulation. The first is more straightforward and involves rigid fitting boards PIR which can then be plastered over. In the other method, a batten wall is built. This batten wall is like a frame which is then filled with an insulating material such as mineral wool before being covered over with plasterboards. In the most expensive method, a new ‘stud wall’ is built, which is a whole new wall inside the existing perimeter. The gap between the old wall and the stud wall can then be filled up with foam, cellulose or wool. Whichever method you choose, the installer will begin by removing things like skirting boards and cabinets to make space for the work. Then they’ll place a protective dust sheet over the floor before beginning the installation. Once the insulation has been fitted, they’ll replace the skirting boards or cabinets and return the room to its former state.
Depending on the size of the area you need insulated and the method you choose, this process can take anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks. Things you need to consider are the electrical sockets on the walls and if they need to be reinstalled, plastering or skim coating over the newly installed plasterboards and painting the finished walls. When you include all these extra tasks internal wall insulation can really be a time consuming job.
