Get free quotes from mirror hanging experts in your areaThe easiest and fastest way to hang a mirror is by using a nail or adhesive strips, especially for lightweight mirrors. A nail can quickly be installed with a hammer but is probably best for plasterboard walls. Adhesive strips have strong adhesive on both sides, allowing you to attach the mirror to the wall without the need for nails, screws or drilling. Heavy mirrors will take more time and effort to make sure of a safe and secure installation.
Most internal walls of a house should be able to support the weight of a light mirror ( less than 2 kg ) without using special fittings. A securely installed nail or screw should be sufficient in this case. Extra consideration needs to be given for plasterboard walls as these will need the correct fixings so the plasterboard can support the weight of the mirror without breaking. Concrete walls will most likely need to be drilled using a heavy duty drill to get the fixings secure. With all wall types, please pay attention to electrical wires that may be running under the wall surface.
There are a few ways to fix a mirror to a wall. The most appropriate method will depend on the type and size of the mirror and wall surface. The most common fixings for attaching mirrors to walls include using nails or screws, mirror brackets, nails and cleat / J-channel. You can pick up most of these mirror hanging fixings in Ireland in places like Woodies or Screwfix.
Once you have the correct fixings, most DIYer should be able to hang lightweight mirrors themselves. If you are going to tackle the job yourself be sure to get advice from the hardware store or a local handyman on what fixings to buy. For plasterboard walls, you will need to take a little more care so as not to damage the wall and leave large holes. If you are hanging on a concrete wall you may need a heavy duty drill.
